A culinary experience in a historic, maritime setting

The food is so wonderful at Sjernarøy Maritim that it might even distract you from another great pleasure on Bjergøy island: Glorious peace and quiet. This charming restaurant offers the best the sea and local farms have to offer in an enchanting setting of boathouses and wharf-side buildings, some from as early as 1780. Even the newest buildings honor ancient construction techniques, such as using no nails. The venues alone are worth the trip, which is a pleasure in itself as a comfortable, express ferry lets you sightsee in the beautiful fjords along the way.

The hosts at Sjernarøy Maritim welcome groups of all sizes, and are happy organize to a range of activities, including cycling, hiking, fishing, swimming and sightseeing. The complex includes five rustic ‘seahouses,’ each with their own unique style. In all, there is room for 400 guests, so there is plenty of space for weddings, group celebrations or company events.

Accommodations are also available at the nearby Furrehytter resort’s cozy cabins and modern apartments.

Bjergøy is one of seven islands of the picturesque Sjernarøy group. Six are connected by bridges, which is ideal for cycling. Or just sit back and savor Sjernarøy’s famous silence.
